In honor of Black History Month, We had a Special After school storytime at the library. We had a guest story teller, who talked about African culture, The African people, how they communicated by beating drums?, the masks and some of the famous personalities of Africa. The children also had fun joining in the African drumming, and they had few interactive activities, including a mask craft. It was good to know about a different culture.
There was also a cultural exhibit of Collects Art For Black History Month. Beautiful paintings and Art work!
In the exhibits, I was inspired by this quote
“If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.”
― Martin Luther King Jr
For the craft activity, the kids got to color mask coloring pages. The story teller told the kids that the more colorful the masks were they more they can dance. With out my help, CJ colored the below masks all by herself.
I was surprised and so happy to see how she choose to color the mask stripes in Rainbow colors that too in perfect order.
