30 days to Hands on play: Build a fort and Building Blocks

The Day 2 Challenge of 30 days to hands on play was to "BUILD A FORT!" and its from Jamie of Hands On : As We Grow. When CJ was almost 18 months old, I started building tents using a table and blankets for her to play in. From then on its her favorite hide out and she loves dens, tents. But after we bought CJ a Igloo tent, we completely forgot the fun. The challenge made us to enjoy our own fort. Thanks Jamie for the Challenge! Isn't Building forts fun!

Now that CJ wants to explode her creativity, I told she can create a Fort using two chairs and a throw blanket. She said "Mommy, chairs will be the wall, I need a roof". First I thought of providing her a cardboard but then I recalled a big art Foam board. So she placed the chairs as shown below and roofed it with the foam board. Covered them with throw blanket and fort ready!




After sometime CJ started calling it as her princess castle. For quiet a longtime she had an eye on the foam board. But I had not let her to use it for coloring. Now she got a chance, her imagination started running to the princess world and she said "Princess roof is not looking colorful, Can you please give me some crayons".

She went inside the castle and started coloring the Princess roof!




Yesterday we were unable to work on the Day 2 challenge so we combined Day 2 and Day 3 challenge. Today's challenge is from Anna of The Imagination Tree to spend (at least) 15 minutes of uninterrupted play"BUILDING WITH BLOCKS AND DUPLO"

When I challenged CJ to create something with her building blocks, she said "Mommy, Why can't I use kitchen tissue rolls to create a rocket ship"

Sorry Anna! I didn't want to disappoint her so I gave a go on it. We used Bounty paper towel rolls because they have a nice plastic wrap round and they are perfect Jumbo Building Blocks.

Take 2: She used three rolls as base and the rocket was ready for Blast off!


She shouted "The count down begins! 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 Blast off!"


CJ made a castle for..

Can you guess what she built!


It looked like a castle, the top two looked like Turrets. But CJ says its a spindle. This time her imagination floated to "Sleeping beauty".

Oh my! Thanks Anna for the challenge! We had lots of fun playing with the Paper towel roll building blocks!

After few hours of play, CJ dismantled her spindle and placed them all on top of the fort roof/castle. She says those things are to save her from torrent. On seeing my puzzled face, She said "Mommy, those bumps will cause the water to go down when there is a heavy rain fall"

PS: It's a Rainy day!
